Yahtzee fun

This week our maths group played yahtzee with a place-value twist. They all worked really well with their learning buddies to help each other learn the rules.
Well done!

Exploring Adcock reserve

Today our team ventured "over the fence" to explore Adcock Park as part of our inquiry "Our Place". The tamariki sketched using viewfinders. A highlight was attracting the eels with raw eggs....thanks for volunteering to have the eggy hands Mr T!

Team maths challenge

Every Friday for maths in 9A we have team challenges. The children are given questions, and they need to work in their team to find as many possible solutions as they can. The questions for today were:

How many ways can you show me the number 9?

The answer is 10. What is the question?

This is our favourite maths time of the week!

School Wide Inquiry 2017

On Monday we launched our school wide Inquiry. Our inquiry is called Our Place - Parklands, Christchurh's North East Oasis. Turangawaewae - a place to stand. Our big questions for this inquiry is What is this place, and what happened here?

On Monday we started by looking at the legend of Maui and the fish hook. We watched the video below and it taught us lots of information. You could ask your tamariki the following questions about it:
- What was special about Maui's hook?
- What did the brothers become?
- What did Maui catch?

We are all keeping class inquiry journals, feel free to pop in an read them and see our learning journey!

Sketching and drawing

On Tuesday 21st March, we practiced sketching a landscape because we are going to Adcock park tomorrow as part of our inquiry into Our Place.
Here are some of the drawings the children did. They are very clever artists.
Liam's sketch

Jackson's sketch that he finished at home.

Team work!

Together we made a web to show how we need to work as a team. If one part of the web is weak the whole web can collapse. By all contributing the web remains strong....kai pai tamariki!
